Yair (Irie) Swet

1951-1973

Dearest Family and Friends,

This website is dedicated to the memory of our beloved Yair (Iri) Swet. Young, handsome, strong, loved and full of charm, who fell in battle on the Golan Heights in the Yom Kippur War in 1973, and in honor of his friends, brothers in arms, and family, who carry his memory in their hearts – ever since.

Yair lived upon this earth for only 22 years, encompassing only a short period of “living” -childhood, youth, adulthood, and military service. Although only 22 years of age, Yair left us all with an enormous void and a legacy way beyond his young age. He left his personal imprint on us all, of warmth, kindness, joy, a true and devoted friend to many – who were all affected by him, and loved him in return. It is this love and affection that we wish to instill and pass on to the younger generations.

In between the pages of this site, you will find pictures depicting his smiling image, letters, documents, and places he lived and visited. There are links to the songs and music he liked to listen to, and even his favorite food recipies. And in hard contrast, you will find the painful words written about him by his parents, family, friends and army commanders – posthumously.

We are quite sure that these pages will serve not only as a memorial to Yair who departed from us much before his time, but as a pleasant reminder for us all of our joyful and carefree days of youth, severed forever by this terrible war, leaving in its wake and aftermath a hurting generation, never to be the same again.

If you have in your possession any pictures, letters, or documents, kindly forward them to us, and we will upload them unto the site on your behalf. Together we can keep Yair’s memory alive and pass on his joyful and loving legacy to others.
